The Kwa-Zulu Natal North Coast is well known for its warm sub-tropical climate, wealth of marine life and rich African history. Salt Rock itself is named after the activity of King Shaka's handmaidens who used to collect dried salt off the rocks at low tide for trade with passing settlers.
Today the area boasts a host of attractions and activities. Stroll along one of the beautiful protected beaches and take a swim in the warm Indian Ocean. Enjoy some excellent shorefishing or charter a boat for a deep-sea experience or just to view the famed bottle-nosed dolphins at play. Take in round of golf on one of the many world-class courses in the area. For the adventurous there are quad-bike trails, zip-line trails and microlight flips. Visit the Umgeni Bird Park, Natal Sharks Board, Moses Mabida Stadium, UShaka Marine World or one of the many Zulu cultural sites or game reserves nearby.
